A 911 caller has reported an unconfirmed incident at 201 Thayer St.

Firefighters and EMS are also responding to the scene.

Firefighters have received additional 911 information that the person was shot in the back near the Sciences Library.

Police continue to evacuate individuals who were barricaded in a building on campus.

The Providence City Council announced a reunification center at the Nelson Fitness Center at 225 Hope Street for families searching for information regarding their loved ones.

In a letter addressing the community, Brown University President Christina H. Paxson stated the campus's Department of Public Safety is actively working with law enforcement and has been informed that the suspect is still at-large. The person of interest previously taken into police custody was determined not to be the shooting suspect.

Out of the eight people injured, six are in stable but critical condition, one is in critical condition, and one is in stable condition.

Officials now say nine people were injured in today's shooting. Students and area residents are still on lockdown as the search for the shooter continues.

There are reportedly 400 law enforcement officials from local, state, and federal agencies in the area assisting with the search.

A suspect was reportedly detained at a hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island, a small town outside of Providence. Police reportedly swarmed the suspect's hotel room and were yelling for the suspect to surrender before taking them into custody.

In a press conference this afternoon, officials said that the person of interest in custody is a man in his twenties who reportedly possessed two firearms, one of which had a laser sight. The FBI used cell phone data to geolocate the suspect in a hotel in Coventry, RI. Authorities are still in the process of notifying the victims’ families.

The person of interest has been identified as a 24-year-old from Wisconsin, per reports. The individual, who has not yet been officially named as a suspect or charged, reportedly served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army.

As of 2024, the individual's residence was in Washington, D.C., and he had previously lived in Wisconsin, per NBC News. Police believe he traveled from Wisconsin to Providence ahead of the shooting.

In a press conference on Sunday night, officials said they will be releasing the individual they detained. The gunman remains at large.

Police indicated they have remained working in tandem with the FBI during the investigation, with a search at a home in Wisconsin.

Officials say the person in surveillance footage is who they believe is the shooter, but not the individual they detained.

Authorities are once again asking for the public's assistance in locating any footage around the time of the shooting on Saturday afternoon.

The manhunt for the Brown University shooter has entered its third day. Classes and exams have been cancelled. Additionally, acceptance announcements for potential incoming students have been delayed.

On Monday morning, Mayor Brett Smiley reiterated that Brown students are safe and no credible threats have been received against the campus community or the greater Providence area.

The Providence Police Department has released new video of a person of interest.

Officials shared new videos and photos of the suspected gunman during a Monday evening press conference, and are asking the public to submit any information, video, or photos to local police or the FBI.

The FBI is offering a reward of $50,000 for information that can lead to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect, who they consider armed and dangerous.

FBI officials also reiterated that they are seeking any videos or photos of the incident or the suspect that could assist in their investigation.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said that the city is operating with "enhance police coverage" in the wake of the manhunt. He named several commercial districts with additional officers present, including Thayer Street, Hope Street, Fox Point, and Wayland Square.

Officials also said they are re-assessing safety issues in all of the state's schools.

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5'8" with a stocky build, per an FBI poster.

Authorities said they are still trying to determine if the gunman is still in the Providence community. However, the mayor affirmed that the city "remains very safe" with increase law enforcement.
