The NYPD officer shot in Jamaica, Queens on Wednesday afternoon is in stable condition after being shot in the right hip, according to multiple sources. 

The 22-year-old officer has just three months on the job and was on patrol in the area of 161st Street and Jamaica Avenue. According to Fox5NY, an MTA bus driver flagged down two police officers, telling them two men were involved in a dispute over a seat.

As police approached the bus, the gunman exited, pushing past the responding officers and fleeing north on 161st Street. The officer and his partner engaged with the suspect and a brief struggle ensued. The suspect fired one shot, striking the officer in the hip and fled the scene. Police returned fire, but it is unclear if the gunman was injured. 

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital in the back of an NYPD police van, where he underwent surgery to repair a broken bone and a “nicked” artery.
