Six people were injured in a hit-and-run in Claremont early Sunday morning, officials said.

At approximately 2:46 a.m, police responded to a report that multiple pedestrians had been struck by a car in the 1400 block of Sheridan Avenue.

When they arrived, officers discovered a 39-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman with cuts to their faces, a 16-year-old boy with a foot injury, and a 41-year-old woman with a broken leg.

Medics transported the four to an area hospital, where they were listed in stable condition.

Passersby attempted to prevent the driver from fleeing the scene, grabbing him and holding him down while waiting for police to arrive.

A passenger fled the Jeep and ran southbound on Sheridan Avenue, returning shortly with multiple others, including an armed man.

According to the NYPD, one of the new arrivals fired a gun into the air, causing the crowd to release the driver.

The driver, passenger, and gunman fled the scene, running southbound on Sheridan Avenue onto Marcy Place.
