One person was killed and a dozen others were injured during a three-alarm fire in an apartment building Wednesday morning in Concourse, Bronx.

The fire was first reported  at 4:54 a.m. on the second floor of the building at 3211 Park Ave.

On arrival, firefighters were met with heavy fire that had extended into the hallway and up through an interior void, causing heavy smoke on all floors above, FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Michael Ajello said while giving an update from the scene.

Service members immediately stretched hoselines, performed searches and raised ladders, Ajello said.

At 5:19 a.m., firefighters called a third alarm due to the severity of the blaze.

Firefighters removed three unconscious residents who were reported to have suffered life-threatening injuries. 

One person has been pronounced dead. Two others are in critical condition, and another is in serious condition.

An additional seven residents, as well as a firefighter, suffered minor injuries.

The department noted on social media that a vehicle blocked a fire hydrant outside the building.

The fire was deemed under control at approximately 6:40 a.m. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation with fire marshals.

People including children are evacuating through the fire escape, according to firefighters on scene.

Firefighters are hosing the fire down with water.

Firefighters have upgraded the incident to a two-alarm fire.

The building is described as a large U-shaped tenement with two entrances.

The fire appears to be spreading, units have called a third-alarm due to the severity of the blaze.

Medical units were requested for two victims suffering from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters report there are a total of four people injured. One is in immediate need of medical attention.

FDNY advises people in the area to close their windows due to heavy smoke emanating from the fire.

The patient count has been updated to a total of seven people injured. Three appear to be suffering from potentially life-threatening injuries.

Additional police were requested to assist with traffic control.

Firefighters report that there is no one left inside. There is extensive roof damage, but the fire has been deemed under control.
