A woman suffered minor injuries after being pushed onto the tracks right as a train approached Thursday morning, police say.

According to NYPD Chief of Transit Kathleen O’Reilly, at around 8:30 a.m., the victim was waiting for the 5 train on the northbound platform of the 14th St - Union Square Station when she was pushed. 

O’Reilly says that surveillance footage shows the suspect waiting for the train to approach before he pushed her. 

The victim fell between the roadway and the tracks. How she made her way back up onto the platform is currently unknown. 

O’Reilly said that the suspect was immediately taken into custody by NYPD Transit officers. 

Police say that the victim and suspect do not know each other and that no words were exchanged before the push. 


Man Detained After Pushing Woman Onto Tracks

Incident reported at 14th St–Union Sq Station.

Firefighters and EMS are responding to a report of a woman on the tracks.

Firefighters have requested that power be turned off.

Police have one suspect detained in relation to the incident.

Firefighters are on the tracks trying to assist the woman.

Police are requesting additional units to the station to assist with directing customer traffic in the station.

Police have concluded their investigation and are requesting that units return to their normal patrols.

Police released a statement advising that they arrested the man who pushed the woman shortly after the incident.

The statement also advised that the woman sustained minor injuries.
