Water Main Break at Train Station

Incident reported at Bedford Avenue Station (L).

Firefighters are responding to a reported water main break at the train station that has resulted in heavy amounts of water gushing onto the rails.

Transit authorities state there will be no (L) trains traveling between Lorimer Street and Manhattan while they work to resolve the broken water main.

Firefighters on scene have declared a utility emergency and have notified the Department of Environmental Protection.

Transit and DEP officials on scene have shut down a water main and will proceed to close another main.

Transit authorities state that train service is suspended in both directions from Myrtle Ave to 14th St–Union Square.

Firefighters report another possible water main break two blocks southeast on Roebling Street.

Water continues to flow onto the L train tracks.

Firefighters say that workers with the Department of Environmental Protection are on scene checking for repairs. Firefighters are investigating the extent of the water leak.

Firefighters say the water flow has been abated and a de-watering unit is on scene. They are declaring the situation under control.

Officials say that L train service has resumed.

4:32 AM, WEDNESDAY – Firefighters responded to a report of a water main break at the Bedford Avenue (L) Station. (L) Train service was disrupted between Lorimer Street & Manhattan while the break was resolved. Video showed water flooding the street, and first-responders on the scene. By 5:12 water had been turned off. By 6:26 AM, firefighters reported that they were de-watering the scene. The FDNY declared the situation under control 6:58 Officials told Citizen that (L) Train service has been resumed. An excavation is underway to determine the source of the leak.
