Water Main Break Floods Street, Disrupts Train Service

FDNY firefighters advise there is a broken water main causing water to flood into the street.

Incident reported at Central Park West & W 102nd St.

Citizen user footage displays water gushing into the street, as well as leaking down onto the 103rd Street subway station platform.

According to a statement given by the FDNY, there will be a heavy presence of emergency personnel in the area of West 102nd Street & Central Park West to deal with the water main break. Expect traffic delays and mass transit disruptions, and consider alternate routes.

Firefighters are investigating flooding conditions in nearby buildings. Transit officials have shut off power to the A, B,C, and D line tracks at the 103 St Station.

Additional footage from Citizen user Kingsmen333 displays significant flooding in the street near the break.

A firefighter confirmed that power is completely shut off between 86th Street and 116th Street on the A, B, C, and D lines.

A firefighter stated that the flow of water has been shut off at the site of the break itself. No additional information has been provided regarding the expected duration of track power shutoff.

Firefighters have successfully stemmed the flow of water from the main break. However, nearby subway stations continue to experience flooding and will remain closed for the time being.

At this time, there is no estimate as to when stations will reopen.

UPDATE: At about 7:47 a.m., Sunday, firefighters responded to a water main break at Central Park West & W 102nd St. Intrepid Citizen users rushed to the scene, capturing video of the flooding from many angles. The floodwaters began seeping into the subway tunnels, and firefighters were forced to turn off power between 86th Street and 116th Street on the West side, suspending service on the A, B, C and D lines. Video captured by user @BKriegstein showed the extensive flooding and repair efforts. By 9:00 a.m., firefighters reported that they were able to stem the flow of water. Train service resumed with delays at 12:30 p.m.
