An Italian tourist was taken on May 6 and held against his will inside the home on Prince Street. Police arrested John Woeltz after the man escaped earlier today, running to a traffic agent for help.

Local news reports stated a dispute over money may be what led to the victim's capture and torture. A search by police led to the discovery of Polaroids showing the victim tied up and tortured. Police also recovered a gun among the torture devices.

Two butlers at the residence are being questioned as part of the investigation. The home was reportedly being rented for $30,000 to $40,000 dollars.

A second female suspect has been arrested, and a third suspect is still being sought.

The group was allegedly trying to extort the victim for millions in cryptocurrency.

The group also allegedly used a taser on the victim while his feet were in water, beat him with a gun, and threatened to cut off his limbs with an electric chainsaw.

Police said the victim escaped Friday morning after the men allegedly told him they planned to kill him that day.

The woman arrested was Beatrice Folchi, 24, according to the New York Post. She was charged, but the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute pending further investigation.

Two NYPD detectives who are part of Mayor Eric Adams' security team have been placed on modified duty after prior connections to the SoHo townhouse where a man was tortured were revealed.

On May 6, one of the off-duty detectives drove the victim from the airport to the townhouse, according to a report from ABC News. He was allegedly working an off-duty security job, employed by one of the two crypto suspects at the time when he drove the victim.

The second detective was also reportedly paid by one of the suspects, as off-duty security. However, NYPD members are not permitted to work for private security without going through a series of approvals.

An Internal Affairs investigation is looking into how long the detectives worked for the suspects and whether their employment was internally approved. The investigation found that neither detective knew of any illegal activity at the townhouse, and the mayor had no knowledge of or connection to the crypto suspects.
