NYPD Officers Shoot Man Who Refused to Drop Knife

At a briefing, NYPD officials said that officers responded to a 911 call of a man having a medical episode and making threats to to kill officers. Upon arrival, two officers encountered the 42-year-old in the building vestibule. He produced a kitchen knife and advanced toward the officers, police said. The officers purportedly gave commands to drop the knife but the man did not comply, and the officers opened fire, striking him. The officers rendered medical aid, and the man was transported to an area hospital, where he's in critical condition. Officials said the incident happened in 28 seconds and was recorded on body cam footage, which is being reviewed.
