It happened at about 5:15 a.m. at the intersection of East 161st Street and River Avenue.

A driver in BMW X6 T-boned the victim's Mitsubishi SUV and then fled the scene, according to reports citing police.

Three people got out of the BMW, which was unregistered and had no license plates, and fled on foot.

The victim was pronounced dead despite life-saving attempts by EMS.

Police found a dozen catalytic converters—a common target for car thieves—in the suspects' possibly stolen vehicle.
