An LASD tactical team arrested a man who reportedly fired a shotgun at deputies in Compton as they responded to a call Thursday morning.

The action unfolded at about 7:30 a.m. near Acacia Avenue and Magnolia Street, just up the street from the Compton Courthouse, when the suspect allegedly fired on deputies from an apartment building.

After firing shots, the suspect barricaded himself in the apartment and apparently set a fire which caused heavy smoke.

The suspect eventually emerged from the building and was detained, while firefighters proceeded on operations to extinguish the engulfed building.

Police are responding to a confirmed report of shots fired in an apartment building. They have requested additional units, as well as an aviation unit.

A 911 caller has reported an unconfirmed incident at 120 N Acacia Ave.

The suspect is armed with a shotgun and is hiding inside an apartment.

Police are diverting traffic away from the area.
