At least five people were injured in a shooting on the Coney Island boardwalk early Sunday morning, police said. 

At around 2 a.m., at least one person opened fire during a pop-up party on the boardwalk near West 21st Street. 

Five people were shot, according to [news reports](https://abcnews.go.com/US/shot-york-citys-famed-coney-island-boardwalk/story?id=86551770) and radio transmissions from the scene.

Police and EMS personnel responded as a large crowd fled the area. 

A 37-year-old man who was shot in the back was transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition, NYPD officials said.

A 19-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman, and a 27-year-old woman who all sustained gunshot wounds to the legs were transported to area hospitals in stable condition. 

A 36-year-old man who was shot in the chin was also transported to an area hospital in stable condition. 

No arrests have been made and no information about the suspect or suspects is known. 

The motive of the shooting is unknown. 

An investigation is ongoing.

Officers on scene have confirmed that a woman was shot in the leg.

Officers on scene additionally report that a man was shot in the mouth.

Officers responding to the shooting were advised that a person shot in the head may have self-transported to a hospital. Officers were advised to investigate for further victims.

Officers are yet to identify the suspects involved in the shooting, but are canvassing the scene.
