Electrical Wires Burning After Car Crashed Into Pole Catching Trees on Fire

Incident reported at Avenue M & Utica Ave.

Citizen user video shows electrical wires smoking emitting a large amount of smoke and causing a tree to catch fire.

According to an unconfirmed 911 report, a vehicle is on fire .

Firefighters on the scene report a car crashed into a pole, bringing down live wires. They have requested Con Edison units.

Officers on the scene have closed the intersection on Avenue M & Utica Ave.

Police on the scene report another fire has ignited on a telephone pole. Fire units have been alertred.

Firefighters advise there are electrical wires burning down several blocks.

The area affected is around Utica Ave traveling up Avenue M and down 52nd St between Avenue N and Avenue M. Firefighters advise that the wires are burning along approximately five square blocks.

ConEdsion units arrived at the scene. Fire crews advise the fire did not spread to nearby buildings.

Firefighters are searching surrounding properties for any potential extensions of the fire.

Fire crews have requested an additional ConEdison unit to respond to Avenue M & E 53rd St.

Fire crews on the scene confirm that all the visible fires have been extinguished.
