A plane piloted by a game warden for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department crashed into Lady Bird Lake Thursday afternoon, officials said.

At around 2 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a plane crash near Downtown Austin.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a 2009 Cessna T-206 had crashed into the water, and the lone pilot swam ashore with the assistance of a paddleboarder. 

According to a briefing from Parks and Wildlife officials, the pilot was a game warden who was taking the plane out following routine maintenance. 

During the flight, the warden reported issues and shortly after landed the plane into the lake. 

The warden was taken to the hospital with serious injuries according to the ATC EMS.

As of 8 p.m., firefighters were able to remove the pane from the lake. 

No injuries to civilians were reported.
