Two 13-year-old boys died after drowning in Jamaica Bay Friday morning, officials said.

Police said the two boys were with a group of friends when they fell into the water around 11:40 a.m.

At least nine rescue swimmers responded on rescue boats to search for the pair of boys, according to [NBC New York](https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/teenage-swimmer-13-dies-after-2-pulled-from-rockaway-waters-police/3729563/).

At approximately 12:30 p.m., one of the boys was found unconscious and rushed to an area hospital.

The second boy was found unconscious 45 minutes later.

Both boys were later pronounced deceased at an area hospital.

Citizen user video showed dozens of first responders on the Queens beach during and after the rescue mission. 

An investigation is ongoing to determine how the two boys fell into the water.

Police are on the scene responding to the water rescue. They advised two divers are actively searching for people in distress near North Channel Bridge.

Police reported that one person is out of the water and advised that they are searching for another person.

Police advised they have rescued a second person out of the water and are transporting the nearby hospital.
