One person was killed and eight people were injured, including three firefighters, during a wind-fueled residential fire in Tremont Tuesday morning.

At approximately 9:05 a.m., firefighters responded to a 911 call for a fire at a two-story residential building at 2194 Valentine Avenue.

Firefighters found heavy fire in the rear of the building, with windy conditions causing flames to spread to "adjoining structures," the FDNY said in a statement.

In a matter of minutes, firefighters raised the incident to a fourth alarm, bringing approximately 75 FDNY units to the scene.

The fire was placed under control at approximately 10:30 a.m.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
