A gas explosion and two-alarm fire in a vacant house in Bath Beach leveled the building and caused irreparable damage to two adjoining homes Friday morning. No one was injured.

At about 7:13 a.m., police received a report of an explosion at a house on Bay 35th Street and Benson Avenue.

Citizen users in the neighborhood took video showing heavy flames and smoke from the top of the building.

Firefighters raised the incident to a second alarm, requiring the use of more than 100 units.

At about 8:54 a.m., firefighters reported that the fire had been put out.

A photo shared by firefighters on social media showed the house at 67 Bay 35th Street where the explosion originated completely collapsed.

In a progress report, firefighters stated over radio transmissions that there was collapse of an adjoining structure also.

No one was found injured, but firefighters are continuing to search the rubble.

A secondary search of the building was delayed due to concerns over the structural integrity of the site.

Department of Buildings inspectors have arrived on scene to conduct structural stability inspections of surrounding buildings and to assist with the investigation.

At a briefing, officials said that the home where the explosion happened was vacant, but two adjoining residences were occupied.  Those occupants were able to self-evacuate and were receiving assistance from the Red Cross and Office of Emergency Management.

Officials said that all three buildings that were affected will need to be demolished due to structural instability.

Amid reports that concern neighbors contacted National Grid in days and weeks leading to the explosion, firefighters said that they had no record of anyone calling the FDNY.

In one video taken by a Citizen user, a neighbor said they had tried for weeks to get the utility company to address a gas smell in the area.

Speaking at the briefing, Mayor Eric Adams urged all New Yorkers to call 911 if they smell natural gas.
