Two people were killed and one person was injured in an apartment fire in Pomonok Wednesday morning, FDNY officials said. 

At 4:34 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a residence at 71-02 162nd Street. 

Upon arrival, crews located heavy flames in an apartment. 

Citizen user videos showed smoke billowing from windows on the top floor of the building as firefighters extended ladders and worked to extinguish the blaze.

FDNY officials said the fire was placed under control at 5:21 a.m.

EMS personnel pronounced two civilians dead at the scene. 

They also treated one person for injuries that were not life-threatening. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire crews have advised two people have been injured during the incident and are being evaluated by EMS. The severities of the injuries have not been reported. Firefighters are conducting a search of the building for anyone trapped by smoke or flames.
