A suspect opened fire on a teen boarding an MTA bus in Harlem Thursday morning, grazing the victim on the head and damaging the bus.

The shooting happened at approximately 10 a.m. near E. 139th Street and 5th Avenue.

According to [reports](https://pix11.com/news/local-news/manhattan/teen-struck-stray-bullet-on-mta-bus-harlem/) citing the NYPD, the victim was being chased by a group of other teens, including the suspected gunman.

The teen got onto the eastbound M1 bus, at which point the suspect ran up and fired two shots. One shot grazed the boy's head and struck the windshield; the other shot struck the bus driver's partition.

The boy and the driver were treated at area hospitals. Police said the driver suffered trauma and a hand injury, but was not struck by gunfire.

Officials said at a briefing that they believe the teen was targeted by the suspect.

Detectives are reviewing video surveillance footage to help identify the shooter.

Officials also said they will be investigating whether the shooting was related to gang activity.

An MTA bus was struck by gunfire, according to police on the scene.

Police on the scene advise a man has sustained minor injury.

Additional units are requested to the scene at the MTA bus.
