One person has died after the vehicle they were traveling in became submerged in the Hutchinson River in Mount Vernon, firefighters confirmed.

Initially it was believed there were two people in the vehicle, but at about 10 a.m., firefighters reported that all of the victims had been removed.

Marine and tow units are working to remove the vehicle from the water.

FDNY units have confirmed there is a car in the water. Two people are inside the car.

Firefighters are attempting to gain access to the car.

The car has reportedly been in the water for around 30 minutes. Numerous EMS units are on standby.
