Police and an armed suspect exchanged gunfire in the South Bronx Wednesday evening, officials said. 

At around 6:22 p.m., police stated over emergency communications that a suspect had fired at police near the corner of E. 174th Street and Hoe Avenue.

Shortly after, Citizen users began taking footage of the scene, showing police taping off a section of the road and searching the area. 

According to the NYPD, officers exchanged gunfire with at least one suspect who fled the scene shortly after. 

In a Tweet, the NYPD asked residents to avoid the intersection due to the ongoing investigation and police activity. 

No officers were injured by gunfire.

The NYPD is continuing to search for the suspect.

Police report they have recovered a firearm.

Police believe the suspect fled into one of the nearby apartment buildings.

Police are shutting down all traffic on East 174th Street, from Hoe Avenue to Bryant Avenue.

Police advise they have located a blood trail near the crime scene on Hoe Avenue.

The NYPD confirmed no police officers were injured in the gunfire exchange.
