A man who shot three people in Times Square Saturday afternoon was apprehended during a joint operation with NYPD detectives and U.S. Marshals near Jacksonville, Florida, officials said.

Just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 8th, police near W. 46th Street and Broadway heard shots fired and called additional units to the scene.

Upon arrival, police found a 23-year-old woman, a 43-year-old woman, and a 4-year-old girl who had sustained gunshot wounds. 

According to the NYPD, all three were transported to area hospitals and were expected to survive their injuries. The 4-year-old girl underwent surgery and is expected to be okay. 

During a press briefing, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said that the shooter may have been involved in an argument with another group at the scene when the shots were fired.

NYPD detectives in a joint operation with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Regional Fugitive Taskforce identified the suspect as Farrakhan Muhammad.

Chief of Detectives James Essig later updated that on Wednesday morning law enforcement tracked Muhammad to Starke, Florida roughly 40 miles southwest of Jacksonville, Florida. U.S. Marshals apprehended him without incident near a McDonald's.

Muhammad will be transported to the custody of the NYPD.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting.

Police have clarified they are searching for one suspect who fled on foot on W 44th Street.

Police are searching for a suspect described as a Black man with a beard, reportedly last seen wearing black pants, a white t-shirt, and black and white sneakers. He reportedly removed an article of clothing as he fled.

The child was reportedly three years old.

The suspect reportedly took off his shirt at The Hayes Theater.

Police advise the suspect may still be wearing a blue sweater over the white shirt. They have not recovered any articles of clothing.

Police advise the suspect is wearing a jersey with the number 9 on the front. The jersey is white at the bottom with black shoulders.

Police are searching local hospitals for any additional victims.

The suspect fled southbound on the east side of 8th Avenue.

The suspect is described as having short dreadlocks and wearing a dark-colored zip-up hoodie over a white jersey with the number 9 on it, and black pants.

The suspect was last seen going westbound on W 43rd Street between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue.

Police have just received an additional report of nearby gunfire. This report is unconfirmed.

Police are searching for a suspect described as a Black man with a beard, short dreadlocks, reportedly last seen wearing black pants with a partial white stripe, a white jersey with the number 9, and a dark hoodie over it.

Police do not have a suspect in custody following the foot pursuit.
