A man was killed and another suffered serious injuries in a three-alarm fire in an Upper East Side apartment building Wednesday morning.

At about 8:30 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of visible smoke on the second floor of the building at 1576 2nd Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they confirmed a fire on the second floor.

Upon searching the building, firefighters located two victims with serious injuries on the second and fourth floors. 

One man was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital, while the second victim’s injuries were described as life-threatening. A firefighter also [reportedly](https://abc7ny.com/upper-east-side-fire-manhattan-building-apartment/10533962/) suffered a minor injury.

A total of 200 firefighters assisted in the effort to contain the 3-alarm blaze.

Firefighters reported that large amounts of clutter in the building hampered their efforts.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A stretch of southbound Second Avenue is closed off while FDNY respond to the fire, according to police. Traffic is being directed westbound on 83rd Street, police report.
