A man was fatally shot in Coney Island Friday evening, police say. 

At 6:41 p.m. officers responded to a report of an assault and shots fired near 2940 West 21st Street, where they found a 39-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. 

Medics transported the man to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. 

NYPD officials said no arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

Police confirm a person has been shot. There is no suspect description.

Police confirm a man has been shot and his condition is unknown. EMS has arrived on scene.

Police report the suspect is a Black man with a heavy set, wearing a gray hoodie, black vest, white Nike sweatpants, and fled northbound on West 21st Street and westbound on Mermaid Avenue.

Multiple Citizen users show emergency personnel and police officers on the scene.

According to an update from New York Daily News, the man was later pronounced deceased at a hospital.
