Ten people, including six children and a firefighter, were injured following a gas explosion in a Bronx house Thursday afternoon, according to reports citing fire officials.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, despite initial statements that there two victims in critical condition, according to a hospital official cited in a [New York Times report](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/18/nyregion/bronx-house-explosion.html).

The explosion occurred around 3:25 p.m. at 1520 Paulding Avenue, a three-story multi-family residence in Morris Park.

Dozens of FDNY units responded to secure the site. The building was heavily damaged with walls, windows, and a door blown out from the force of the blast.

The situation was deemed under control around 4:40 p.m.

Before firefighters arrived, a mother reportedly dropped her toddler out of a second-floor window down to a neighbor who caught her. The mother’s other young daughter was taken to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Department of Buildings inspectors determined that the building is structurally stable. However, due to severe damage to the front and interior of the building, residents have been ordered to vacate. Two neighboring buildings also suffered damage but are structurally stable, the department said. 

Gas was shut off to all three buildings, and the Red Cross offered emergency relocation assistance to all of the residents.

A gas leak is suspected as the cause of the explosion, according to fire officials cited by [NBC4](https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/six-children-among-nine-injured-after-gas-explosion-in-bronx/2897053/), while [ABC News](https://abcnews.go.com/US/gas-explosion-bronx-apartment-leaves-multiple-injured-critically/story?id=75981080) reported it may have been related to an appliance. The incident remains under investigation by fire marshals, Con Edison, and the DOB.
