One man was killed and another was injured in a gunfight in East Harlem early Tuesday morning, police say.

According to officials, at around 1:05 a.m. police responded to a report of a shooting in from of 107 E. 126 Street.

Officers arriving at the scene identified a 21-year-old man who had been shot in the left and right armpits. 

The victim, identified as Tyquan Hardnett, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police also responded to a report of a man shot in front of 27 E. 124 Street. 

Officers arriving to that location observed a 19-year-old man who had been shot in his groin and right shoulder. 

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Police took the man into custody. 

Police say that the two victims were injured when they shot at each other near 107 E. 126 Street. 

The investigation is ongoing.

According to police, when they arrived they discovered a 21-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his left and right armpits. EMTs transported him to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased. After a preliminary investigation, police believe he was engaged in a gunfight with the man found shot near Madison Avenue & E 124th Street. The suspect was taken to a hospital where he is in stable condition and in police custody.
