A four-year-old child was killed and a six-year-old is in critical condition after they were struck by a vehicle in Bensonhurst.

The incident happened after 9 a.m. near the intersection of 67th St and 20th Avenue.

The driver initially left the scene, but police say they returned.

A [report by ABC](https://abc7ny.com/boy-killed-brother-critical-in-brooklyn-hit-and-run/9345301/) said the 76-year-old driver dropped the children off and was apparently unaware that he had struck them. He reportedly returned after being contacted.

No charges have yet been filed against the driver, according to the report.

The incident is under investigation by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad.

Funeral services are reportedly planned for the deceased child at the Yeshiva of Staten Island Monday night.

Two Children Struck by Van, One Fatally

Firefighters have requested police to the scene in regard to a child who was struck by a vehicle, which fled the area.

Officers on scene have confirmed a child was struck. Highway Patrol and Collision Investigation Squad (CIS) units have been requested to assist with the investigation.

The child is being transported to the hospital.

The suspect vehicle was last seen heading eastbound on 67th Street.

Officers have requested additional units and resources to the scene.

NYPD units clarify the suspect vehicle is a blue minivan, or possibly a work truck, with damage.
