A driver who killed two pedestrians in San Francisco’s South of Market on Thursday was on parole and operating a stolen vehicle, according to a [report](https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2021/01/01/san-francisco-soma-fatal-hit-and-run-new-years-eve-2nd-street-mission/) citing San Francisco police.

According to the report, at about 4 p.m., the suspect’s vehicle struck another vehicle and spun out of control near the intersection of Second and Mission streets, slamming into two women who were crossing.

The report stated that the vehicle reportedly ran a red light while traveling northbound on Second Street just prior to the collision.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene; the other victim was pronounced dead soon after being transported to the hospital.

The suspect reportedly tried to flee on foot from the fatal collision but was apprehended by police.

According to the report, the suspect was on parole and driving a stolen car. Their identity has not been released.

Additional sources advise two people were killed after being struck by a vehicle that later fled the scene. The suspect is in police custody.
