A 12-year-old boy and a 69-year-old man were killed in an early Monday morning blaze in Flatbush, according to officials.

Around 1:54 a.m., FDNY personnel and police responded to a report of a fire in an apartment. Arriving units discovered a large fire breaking out in the top floor of the five-story building. 

Over the course of the next hour, users broadcast video of the flames and the massive FDNY response. The fire was declared a two-alarm incident by FDNY officials.

The fire was placed under control around 3:13 a.m. According to a police statement, four victims were initially transported to nearby hospitals with injuries ranging from moderate to severe. Nine others—including five firefighters—suffered minor injuries. The total patient count was 13, according to the FDNY.

Two of the victims, a 12-year-old boy and 69-year-old man, were pronounced dead once transported to hospitals.

An 82-year-old woman remains in critical condition, while a 30-year-old woman is reported to be in stable condition.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and is pending an investigation by the Fire Marshal.
